Centre national de la danse

An arts centre dedicated to dance

On the outskirts of Paris, France’s Centre national de la danse (CN D) is a unique centre for new creative work and resources, dedicated to the world of dance. The Fondation d’entreprise Hermès is a long-term supporter of this outstanding arts institution, as part of our wider commitment to the performing arts.

Since its creation in 1998 by France’s Ministry for Culture and Communication, the CN D has established itself as a unique institution in the French cultural landscape, dedicated to the development of the national choreographic culture, the making and presentation of new works, the communication and development of its permanent collections, teaching, and residency programmes. The Fondation d’entreprise Hermès has supported CN D in all aspects of its work since 2009, as a member of its circle of patrons, Club CN D-Entreprises.

The Foundation also supports specific CN D projects that resonate closely with our core mission and beliefs. In 2015, we supported the CN D’s Camping project, launched by its director, Mathilde Monnier. Each year, the international, two-week programme presents workshops, lectures, performances, classes and screenings for the widest possible public – stage professionals and amateurs, adults and children. In Lyon and Pantin (on Paris’s northern edge), Camping transforms the entire CN D space into a forum for encounters, discovery and new work, with and by internationally renowned choreographers.

Lastly, the Foundation supports an annual, autumn programme of exhibitions, performances and colloquia celebrating the work of a leading figure from the world of contemporary dance. Personalities honoured in recent years include Trisha Brown, Lucinda Childs and Alain Buffard. The programme is part of a wider commitment to transmit choreographic expertise rooted in the history of dance.
