In South Korea, 50 kilometres from Samcheok, Dogye High School produces stage musicals with children experiencing difficulties at school, rekindling their enthusiasm and commitment, and their taste for studying…
The Ranch and Fence Musical Club was founded in 2006 at Dogye High School, in a depressed mining region of South Korea. The targeted programme invites children expriencing difficulties with their studies to re-engage with their classmates and take part in productions of stage musicals.
Every day after class, the teenage participants rehearse, sing, dance and act with professional performers, discovering the benefits of teamwork and physical exercise, learning about music, and (re)discovering the value of commitment and dedication to excellence, discipline, concentration, while enhancing their attention spans and self-esteem.
The Fondation d’entreprise Hermès supports this collective initiative in recognition of its high educational value, enabling teenage students who have "lost their way" to rediscover their drive to succeed, and return to their studies with confidence and motivation. In just three years, the Ranch and Fence Musical Club has established a fine reputation in Korea, winning numerous prizes at festivals around the country, playing to packed houses and critical acclaim.
