Applications are invited for the second Skills Academy organised by the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès. Directed by guest designer Guillaume Bardet, the 2015 Academy – Grounded! – is aimed at artisans, designers and engineers working in clay, its related materials and industries, with a focus on skills- and knowledge-sharing for innovation.
Skills Academy programme
During the first semester, participants attend a series of lectures and master classes by leading French and international experts from the worlds of design, artisanship, engineering and research. For the autumn session, Academicians attend a fifteen-day workshop taking a fresh look at the Academy topic, drawing on their own practice, and knowledge shared and acquired during phase one of the programme.
Call for applications
The Academy is open to professionals of all ages. Five designers, five engineers and ten artisans or master craftspeople will be selected to take part. Under the title Grounded!, the second Skills Academy takes a cross-disciplinary approach to clay, its related materials, industries and trades, directed by guest designer Guillaume Bardet.
Applications are invited from 1 May to 6 July 2014. The programme will begin on January 2015.
Why the Skills Academy?
The Skills Academy accompanies artisans, creative designers and engineers eager to apply their skills and know-how to innovate in their chosen fields. Conceived and organised by the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès, the Academy is as a biennial programme dedicated to the practice and transmission of artisan know-how across other sectors, notably design and engineering. The Skills Academy is a laboratory for new thinking and know-how, promoting collaboration and knowledge-sharing for innovation, creativity and sustainability.
