Sport in the city

Helping young people to integrate socially and professionally

The Fondation d’entreprise Hermès supports action by not-for-profit association Sport dans la Ville, working with businesses and municipal authorities to promote training and integration for young people living near the Hermès site at Pierre-Bénite, in the Grand Lyon agglomeration.

How to help young people from deprived areas develop their potential and find work? The Fondation d’entreprise Hermès works with local organisations, companies (Holding Textile Hermès and the Maroquinerie de Pierre-Bénite) and authorities (in Pierre-Bénite and Saint-Genis-Laval) in support of two projects initiated by the not-for-profit association Sport dans la Ville.

The first scheme, ‘Job dans la ville’, is aimed at young men and women, promoting training and support into work for young people aged 14 to 20. The scheme provides mock interviews, visits to local businesses and workshops, and support for participants from individual mentors working in partner companies. The second scheme, ‘L dans la ville’, encourages girls and young women from deprived areas – many of whom are not allowed to take part in mixed leisure activities by their families – to engage with sport, cultural activities, and careers advice.

Each programme culminates in an internship, a fixed-term work contract, or an apprenticeship combining work experience with education. The Fondation d’entreprise Hermès organises occasional cultural events as part of both schemes, and supports their work to build confidence and open up new prospects for the young people taking part.
